Church Donates Computers

Some schools of the Di Qar province in Iraq now have computers thanks to Chief Warrant Officer 3 Harold Renfroe of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 194th Engineer Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard of Jackson and his church, Corinth Baptist Church of Darden, Tennessee.

CW Renfroe explains, "The computers were originally intended for a mission trip to Belize, Central America, but after the shipping container had been loaded there was no more room for these computers. When I found out that he 194th was being mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I approached the church about letting us bring the computers to Iraq. I felt there would be a shortage of computers for sections to use. The church readily agreed to let us bring them. Toward the end of our rotation our pastor agreed to let us donate the computers to the education system here in Iraq."

Lieutenant Colonel Bart Butler, who is the Civil Military Officer (S-5) for the 194th, arranged to have the head master of several local schools pickup the computers near the unit's base camp.

Receiving computers from left are; Kamil Hamid Thiweny, CW3 Renfroe, Reyad Haider Hassin, Hassin Ali Falieh, LTC Butler, Norm (interpreter) and Khadir Resan Abas.
